High gas prices and a growing awareness of global warming have many residents thinking of ways to ditch their cars.

NewsCenter 5's David Brown reported Wednesday that there is a new Web site that can get you a ride while using the same online networking that connects people with similar interests.

Kate Sydney said that she is familiar with logging onto social networks and finding what she needs.

"I see someone is going to IKEA. Maybe I should go to IKEA," she said.

With GoLoco.org, Sydney can connect to people with similar interests while sharing a ride. She has an online profile that shows her picture, lists her interests and even has her voice.

With a few clicks, she can connect to online friends, with whom she can share a ride.

"GoLoco is a trusted online community that lets friends, co-workers and neighbors quickly and easily share rides amongst themselves," said GoLoco.com's founder Robin Chase.

Chase said that she knows a thing or two about ride-sharing. Seven years ago she started Zip Car. Now, she is trying to get people to share rides, while expanding their network of friends.

"GoLoco can not only get you from point A to point B, but it also can get you to work. In fact, 75 percent of commuters drive alone. So GoLoco could ease congestion and also reduce carbon emissions," she said.

The Web site does not screen its users. You can only accept or give a ride to people in your network.
