NewsCenter 5's Pam Cross reports that Paul Coskie suffered severe brain injuries after being struck by a car while riding his bike. He wasn't wearing a helmet, and he was in a coma for weeks.

At one point, he was even given last rites.

"There were days when we didn't think Paul was going to make it," his mother, Dixie Coskie, said. "He had to learn how to walk and talk and just relearn how to do everything."

After nearly four months of rehabilitation at Franciscan Children's Hospital, Paul is getting good-bye hugs from his many therapists and top grades from his doctor.

"Paul has done remarkably well," pediatrician Dr. Robert Graham said. "Since he arrived here at Franciscan's he's been probably one of the most dramatic recoveries we've seen in quite a while."

"When Paul first came here, I was moving his legs for him in bed," physical therapist Amy Pasternak said. "Now he's walking by himself almost."

Part of the recovery is attributed to Franciscan's brain injury treatment program, part to faith and prayer and a large part to Paul's iron will.

He said that he got discouraged every day, but he refused to stop.

"Paul putting a lot of hard work into coming back and people there to help him to do so, and he's a miracle," his mother said. "You've just got to look at him to believe in miracles."

Paul, who has six brothers and sisters is looking forward to family, friends and school.

"There's no words to thank everybody," his mother said. "It's just thank you and thank God."
