Boston police arrested a man Tuesday who they said stole a truck from near a local hospital and led them on a chase, crashing into several other vehicles along the way and injuring four people.

Police officials said the flatbed truck was stolen near the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital in Jamaica Plain.

They said the truck was taken about 10:40 a.m. near Ashmont Square at Talbot and Wells streets in Dorchester. Officers pursued the driver, who crashed into at least five other vehicles, one at American Legion Highway and Canterbury Street.

Police ultimately caught up with him after a 20-minute chase near Columbia and Ceylon streets and arrested him.

"He was apprehended when he collided with another tow truck from the same company," Boston police Lt. James Jones said.

He was taken into custody and was being held at state police barracks in South Boston. He was not injured, police said. His name has not yet been released.

Police said they were not sure how seriously other drivers were injured. At least three were taken to area hospitals.
