Repairs Will Be Expensive

Rush hour traffic crawled by a Route 1 fixture Monday that was damaged last week by vandals.

The giant orange dinosaur that stood guard over the Route 1 Miniature Golf and Batting Cages in Saugus was knocked off its perch sometime between late Thursday and early Friday morning. The owner, Diana Fay, said vandals apparently rocked the Tyrannosaurus Rex so hard that it snapped at the ankles.

The dinosaur was built in the 1960s by Fay's late uncle to greet putters on the sixth hole. The massive fiberglass T-Rex, which stood 12 feet high, survived hurricanes and blizzards over the years. Fay said she hopes to restore the dinosaur, but she expects the repairs will be very expensive. It may take a crane to get T-Rex back on his feet.

Fay is asking anyone with information about the vandalism to contact her.
