Two men were seriously injured Saturday at Logan airport when they were pinned against a pickup by an out-of-control taxi, police said.

Daniel Kass, 45, of Saugus and Kevin Leonard, 47, of Fairfax, Va., were hit by a taxi that rolled forward after the taxi driver left his vehicle, police said.

State Police said cab is owned by the "Hello" Taxi Company in Brookline and was operated by Yassir Mari, 29, of Melrose. Police said Mari was slowing to drop off a passenger at the terminal.

"Witnesses stated that Mr. Mari exited the taxi, but the taxi continued to roll forward. Mr. Mari jumped back in to the driver’s seat, but the vehicle lurched forward, striking two males who were standing at the rear of a Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck. Both men were pinned between the vehicles and seriously injured," according to a press release issued by the department.

Leonard received serious, life threatening injuries to his legs and lower body. Both men were being treated at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Mari was cited by police for negligent operation of a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle with defective equipment.
