Somebody could become a whole lot richer Friday night.

The Mega Millions multi-state lottery game has been without a top winner since Jan. 9, which means Friday night's jackpot is worth $267 million.

NewsCenter 5's Steve Lacy reported that in order to win, ticket buyers must match five numbers from 1 to 56 and a Mega Ball number from 1 through 45. During the last drawing on Tuesday, three people from Massachusetts hit the first five numbers but did not match the Mega Ball. That was still good enough for a $250,000 consolation prize.

Frenzied players don't seem to mind having to overcome the stratospheric odds of having a ticket that matches all six numbers: one in 175 million.

The 12 states where Mega Million tickets are sold are Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, Georgia, Washington, Michigan, Illinois, Texas, California and Ohio.

If you were to hit the big prize, how much would you actually take home? If you took it in one lump sum, you would get a one-time payout of $158 million after taxes. Or you could receive 26 annual payments of $10.27 million before taxes.

Watch the drawing live on Channel 5 at 11 p.m.
