BOSTON -- Patriots Quarterback Tom Brady testified Friday in the medical malpractice lawsuit brought by former Patriots offensive coordinator Charlie Weis.NewsCenter 5's Pam Cross reported that Brady testified at Suffolk Superior Court during Weis' medical malpractice lawsuit against two Massachusetts General Hospital surgeons. Weis said physicians Charles Ferguson and Richard Hodin acted negligently after his June 2002 gastric bypass surgery.Brady testified that his friend and former coach didn't say a lot about the pain he suffered following the surgery."I think there is a macho mentality in football -- whether you are a player or a coach. You don't want anyone's help. You are going to kind of grin and bear it. You don't ever want anyone to pity you," Brady said.Weis claimed that the surgeons' negligence caused nerve damage to his legs and feet and forced him to use a motorized cart."He constantly was trying to rub his legs to, I guess, stimulate the nerves to try to do his best to make his feet feel better. He was always in the training room. Constantly, he had people working on his legs. He was in the hot tub. He constantly had his feet elevated. I remember him expressing the pain he was going through, standing for long periods of time," Brady said.Weis is now the coach of Notre Dame. Brady said that he's remained friendly with Weis. The quarterback added some star quality to the sometimes-clinical trial. Brady's appearance in court drew many onlookers who tried to capture a glimpse of the star football player.Behind closed doors moments before testifying, Brady signed autographs for a handful of court employees."It was terrific. One of the nicest moments I've ever had," said Gail Whittier, who manages the court's coffee shop. "The only sports figure that I look up to (is Tom Brady.) He was very friendly, very nice, very polite and courteous. He signed my shirt."Legal secretary Carol Panniello was glowing after her brief brush with Brady."There is a lot of excitement going on. We heard he was going to be here, and finally it happened," Panniello said."He was the perfect gentleman -- like he always is," Whittier said.
