Driver Of SUV To Face Charge, Police Say

BOSTON -- Nine people were rushed to a hospital Thursday after a sport utility vehicle collided with a school bus in Kingston.NewsCenter 5's Steve Lacy reported the collision occurred at the corner of Joseph and Pembroke streets at about 7 a.m. There were 23 students on the bus at the time of the collision, police said.Authorities said seven students were taken to Jordan Hospital with minor injuries. Three students from Silver Lake Regional High School and four from the middle school were taken to the hospital, according to the high school principal."He said he hit like a patch of ice, and he spun around, and he ended up hitting the bus head on," witness Michelle Hill said. "The kids, they seemed to be OK. No one was crying from what I could see. I think they just got banged up a little bit."The driver of the SUV, Joshua Pierce, 21, and the bus driver were also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said."Seven students ranging in age from 14 to 15 and the bus driver are all expected to be treated and released," Jordan Hospital spokesman John Looney said.Police said the students were on their way to Kingston's middle and high school. The accident occurred near Silver Lake High School.The cause of the collision is under investigation, although icy roads may have been a factor.Police said that road conditions were not a factor in the accident. Officials said that Pierce will likely face a charge of driving to endanger.
