Former New England Patriots offensive coach Charlie Weis was on the witness stand in Boston Wednesday, detailing the debilitation he suffers following his gastric bypass surgery.

NewsCenter 5's Amalia Barreda reported that Weis claims the doctors botched the job four years ago and left him with permanent nerve damage.

"I sort of waddle. It's sort of like I lift here, and I plop there -- so lift here and plop there," Charlie Weis said.

Weis testified he's been unable to walk normally since the gastric bypass surgery he had in June of 2002.

One year before the operation, the former Patriots offensive coordinator was weighing nearly 300 pounds. After a lifetime of battling weight, he said that he woke up to find a priest over him and feared he was administering last rights.

"And I told him, 'Don't you dare.' And he told me he was giving me a prayer for the living -- not a prayer for the dead," Weis said.

Weis is suing his surgeons, Dr. Charles Ferguson and Dr. Richard Hodin of the Massachusetts General Hospital, alleging their negligence caused the nerve damage to his legs and feet that forced him to use a wheelchair and a cart for weeks after the operation. He said that the damage restricts his mobility to this day.

"I don't understand why I can't walk on the boardwalk with my wife or ride a bicycle. I don't understand why I can't play with my kids. OK, I don't understand why I can't run out on the football field when our team runs out at the start of a game. I just don't understand that," Weis said.

Under cross examination, Weis testified he understood all the risks associated with the surgery, and he smiled as he admitted jumping at the job of head coach at Notre Dame, his physical problems notwithstanding.
