Police said they have seized a sport utility vehicle in connection with the Jan. 20 hit-and-run death of a University of Connecticut student.

Campus police said on Tuesday that they've seized a gray 2004 Nissan Armada that has front-end damage and that it's being examined for evidence. They aren't saying who owns it.

Police have been seeking whoever struck and killed Carlee Wines, 19, in a crosswalk early on the morning of Jan. 20 on campus.

Wines, a freshman from New Jersey, died two days later from her injuries.

A vigil was held Tuesday night at St. James Church to remember Wines.

"It's been very hard for the whole campus," said UConn sophomore Peter George after attending the vigil. "We've been mourning the death of her."

Police aren't saying definitively that the Nissan they seized was the vehicle that struck Wines, though they described the front-end damage as "consistent with police expectations."

"The tips and information we have obtained to this point have played a role in our finding the vehicle, certainly we continue the investigation and encourage people with information to come forward," said Major Ronald Blicher of UConn police.

They're also still looking for witnesses to the incident or anyone who saw a gray Nissan Armada SUV in the area when Wines was hit.

"It's a tragedy that this kind of thing happens and then people don't take responsibility for their actions," UConn student Frank Murphy said.
