DANVERS, Mass. -- Officials searching through the wreckage after last week's explosion in Danvers have finished one phase of the investigation, officials said Wednesday.NewsCenter 5's Jack Harper reported that local officials completed their on-site work."Investigators have, however, found that there is no evidence that the explosion was caused by an intentional criminal act," state Fire Marshall Stephen Coan said.
Investigators are now starting on phase 2."The cause and origin of the Danvers incident is ongoing. The investigative teams have determined that a single explosion event took place inside the 10,000-square-foot structure and that additional explosion events were a result of the first one. We have identified several areas of interest and will continue to investigate as well as identify possible ignition sources in those areas," Coan said.More agencies are now free to do their work."We will be looking very closely at the operations of the two companies that were involved in this incident. We will be bringing our resources, our chemical experts, our explosion experts," Chemical Safety Board spokesman John Vorderbruegten said.Danvers building inspectors have a field office in place to facilitate home repairs.Another local company is offering help to victims."We are offering two months of free storage to anyone who was affected by the explosion in Danvers, and we hope this will allow them a little time to put some goods in storage and keep it in a nice safe place while they are recovering," Extra Space Storage spokesman Bruce Hoffman said.
