CAI Inc, a family business incorporated in 1985, manufactures water base and solvent base ink systems which are used by the flexible packaging/paper board industry. The company has safely operated an ink manufacturing operation in Danvers for more than 20 years. CAI is a co-tenant in the Danvers facility with Arnel Inc, a manufacturer of paint products.

Solvents and related chemicals are used in the ink manufacturing process at CAI. All materials used by the company are properly permitted, stored and inventoried according to applicable state and local regulating bodies.

All of us at CAI are shocked and devastated by this accident. Our foremost concern is for the safety and well-being of our neighbors and employees. We are so grateful that no serious injuries or fatalities occurred and are doing everything we can to assist officials in determining the cause of the accident, which is unknown at this time. We want to thank the local authorities, the first responders and the Red Cross for their rapid response and for their efforts to assist the displaced families. We have reached out to these folks and will do everything in our power to support their efforts.

Throughout its 20 years of operation, CAI has maintained an impeccable safety record. The family company cooperates fully with state and local regulatory officials through regular inspections and protocols to ensure that the proper permitting and handling of regulated materials is in place at all times. In 2001, CAI voluntarily undertook a major safety upgrade to enhance the safety of its operating facility in Danvers. The upgrades included the installation of a state-of-the-art fire sprinkler system specifically designed to suppress chemical-base fires.
