UPDATED: 3:34 pm EST November 22, 2006

WCVB viewers flooded the station with e-mails about the Danvers explosion Wednesday morning. The following are some of the accounts of their experience.

MESSAGE: Strangest feeling; I was asleep in a small motorhome at my sister's house in Peabody and was startled awake at 2:48am because the camper shook. I had no idea what could have made the vehicle suddlenly shake. Being awakened by a sudden shaking was such an odd thing, with no apparent explanation.
- Francesca

MESSAGE: I live 4.18 miles from the source of the explosion in a mid-rise apartment building in downtown Beverly. My 13-inch TV did a somersault in the air and landed on the floor. My 9-year-old daughter and I are displaced hurricane victims from Louisiana, so witnessing another disaster was terrifying to us!
-Natalie in Beverly

MESSAGE: We live about a mile or so away. WE were awakened by a huge explosion. My husband was sure it was a bomb, I was sure a plane went down in the square. We saw the cloud out of our skylights...We were going to walk up to the square to see what it was, but realized it was further away. We got in our truck and followed the cloud. We ended up at the Sylvania Parking Lot on Endicott street with about 60 other cars, just watching the flames above the trees.

We thought it was Eastern Propane, looking back...Thank GOD it wasn't because it would have been much worse.
- Dee

MESSAGE: I was awoken around 3:00 in the morning with a noise like firecrackers flaring in the air....i went outside to my apartment...it almost felt like the flaring noise was brushing against the house. It was weird...now, i know, heard all about that fire...i am just glad everyone made it out alive and their were no casualties. Stanley Foreman, is a great photographer as well. I only watch channel five news you people are great.
-Sheryl in Salem, MA

MESSAGE: My name is Monique and I live in Peabody a few miles or so away. I was awoke at approximately 2:40am with an extremely loud boom, my attic door slammed so hard it was like another boom, my bed hit the wall and the whole house shook. I was afraid I didn't know what it was. I woke my husband up and had him look around the house and out the windows and he didn't see anything. Then we heard 2 more booms. I said that's not right. So I looked out my front window and I saw a huge cloud of smoke going through the sky. The direction I was looking in was towards our electrical plant and there were flames and glows coming from Buxton cliffs. I said thought the light plant blew up? I wasn't sure if someone dropped a bomb? I tried to call Peabody police a few times and could not get through. It wasn't till about 3:30 when I found a news station that subtitled what happened. Thank God everyone is pretty much OK.
-Monique in Peabody

MESSAGE: Seeing the news of the blast in Danvers, I immediately called my parents in Salem to see if they were ok. My father flashed back to his days in World War II. He grabbed my mother in his arms and waited for another blast, not knowing what it was. Their whole house shook. They were frightened but unharmed.
- Rhonda (in the Berkshires) MA

MESSAGE: I live near Collins cove in Salem. The explosion woke me. It sounded like extreem thunder. I opened my eyes and looked towards my bedroom window (which is facing the area of the explosion) and I thought a light came on in my yard and then went out. I thought, I watched the news and they didn't mention a thunder and lightening storm? That's just what it was like, only I didn't hear any rain. It was approximately 2:50 AM. It was definately disturbing to me. I can't imagine how scared the neighbors to that blast were. It sounded horifying here in Salem. Thanks to Newscenter 5 I had instant answers when I awoke this morning. I depend on you every morning to fill me in on the news of the day and today I applaud you. Letting me know there were no fatalities was the best news to hear. I have a friend who lives just yards away across Water St. God bless you Ed and Heather. I hope you know how important your job is to someone like me. Thank you for being there.

MESSAGE: I live in Exeter NH. I must of heard it becuase I was awakened by something at that time and so was my dog. Years ago my husband use to install poured floors and he would buy his Chemicals from there. At that time it was called Harold Chemical. We are friends with the Lyon's who had the grill bus. in front of that. They sold their house a few years ago. My husband also works for Eastern Propane in NH and we know how very close Eastern is to that site. They are so very lucky.

MESSAGE: My elderly parents live a 1/2 mile east from the explosion on the Danvers River in Beverly. My Dad, a WWII veteran reported that my mother's bureau was knocked right over and her TV smashed onto the floor. The bureau was on the west side of the house. My Dad said that he hadn't heard or felt anything that intense, "even in the war." We are a good mile away and all of our neighbors were gathered outside of their homes, very shaken up as we observed the tremendous flames off in the distance. The blast was intense lasting for approximately 5 seconds and rattled our homes, windows and nerves.
- Clare

MESSAGE: I live on westview circle and have line of sight from the second floor of my home where the windows were blown out due to the explosion. At 2:56 am my son and i drove to theschool for the deaf to see what happened. i thought it was the high pressure gas main they put in a few years ago or a tank at Eastern Propane. there was debris showering the area and the flames were 200-300 ft in the air. i then went home to check on my animals and try to close up the windows that were blown in. I will be at home depot later today buying some plywood and plastic. If you have any info as to whom will be responsible for damages please let me know. I will go thru my insurance co. for now but any info would be great.
- Greg

MESSAGE: Can you ask the news team covering the Danvers blast to report on the condition of the boats in the marina? My boat is literally feet away from the explosion as well as my neighbor' yachts. Thank God the blast went the other way, as these yachts are stored for the winter with hundreds of gallons of gas. Loss would have been extraordinary if they went up. I live 2.5 miles away in Salem, MA and we were awoken at 2:45am by the blast, as it shook the house literally on its foundation and items dropped off of shelves. We're pretty frantic about our boats. My heart goes out to the people who lost their homes and businesses. The local community will come together to help them. We are tight-knit on the NorthShore. Thanks
- Karen

MESSAGE: It is amazing that people say that no one knew that the chemical plant wasn't there. I grew up in the house that my parents built in 1957 directly behind that same plant, which is the second house in on Bates St the small cape that is being shown in your aerial shots. My mothe sold the home in 1997.
