BOSTON -- A Boston talk radio host who was fired for making disparaging remarks about former gubernatorial candidate Grace Ross wants his job back.NewsCenter 5's Pam Cross reported Thursday that John DePetro said that he's willing to undergo sensitivity training and even offer Ross free airtime."You know, I hear from people in the industry and other people look at this. I am still stunned that not only myself, but my engineer, also was terminated," DePetro said.DePetro said that he and his engineer at WRKO were wrongfully fired. He lost his job last week after referring to the weight and sexuality of Ross. Two years ago, the company used different discipline when two popular talk hosts made statements that some thought denigrated METCO students."They suspended the hosts for two weeks. They also sent them to sensitivity training. In addition, they reached out to the METCO community," DePetro said.DePetro, who apologized to listeners and Ross, was suspended for two days four months ago after calling then-Turnpike Chairman Matt Amorello a name while on-air."His discharge was appropriate and justified," WRKO said in a statement. "We have moved on and wish him well.""We believe that Entercom and specifically the general manager made a knee-jerk decision without really thoughtfully considering it and perhaps not talking to others," attorney Peter Bellotti said."The METCO case where there was a suspension and sensitivity training -- there was no discussion with me on that, so I'd like to follow the precedent that was established by the company," DePetro said.
