BOSTON -- Service resumed on a Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority train line after 19 people were injured in a commuter train crash.NewsCenter 5's Gail Huff reported that a truck hauling construction equipment got stuck on the tracks in Franklin Monday morning. The truck driver tried to warn the oncoming commuter train that his rig was stuck on the railroad tracks, but the train engineer couldn't stop in time.Nineteen commuters suffered minor injuries in the rail accident on the Franklin line inbound and about 15 of them went to the hospital for treatment, officials said. The crash occurred in the area of Hayward and Fisher streets at about 7:50 a.m. just as the train was leaving the Forge Park station on its run into Boston. All of a sudden, passengers said, the brakes slammed on and a huge piece of conveyer equipment that was on the flatbed truck smashed into the upper compartment of one of the train cars."The truck was coming across the tracks -- it's a low-bed -- and the low-bed got stuck on the train tracks," witness Eric Huff said. The driver got out of the truck and tried to warn the train, but it was too late for the train to stop."The train put on its brakes, and this is what occurred," MBTA spokeswoman Lydia Rivera said. The driver was not hurt, but he was taken to a local hospital."People on the upper deck said it was a little frightening," Huff said."It just looked like some people were banged up -- bumps, bruises, scratches -- that's about it," Pete Arbogast said. The train was traveling about 40 mph, officials said, and the impact sent the construction equipment on the truck into the train's upper deck."It appears to be a piece of digging equipment," transit police Lt. Mike Shea said.A sign at the top of Fisher Street warns motorists of the track hazard saying, "Caution, low-bed vehicles are prohibited from Fisher Street railroad crossing."MBTA officials said commuters were bused between the Forge Park and Franklin train stops.
