Williams Agrees To Contract Extension With Jazz

(Sports Network) - Guard Deron Williams agreed to a contract extension with the Utah Jazz, and on Friday he spoke about his big multi-year deal.

Williams, one of 12 players named to the 2008 USA Olympic Basketball Team, expressed his intent on bringing a championship to Utah.

"Continuing to lead the Jazz on the court is exactly what I want to do," said Williams. "Jazz fans are the best in the NBA. My wife Amy and I really enjoy living in Salt Lake and look forward to continue raising our daughters here."

According to the Salt Lake Tribune, the deal is for three years with an option for the fourth year with Williams earning $50 million in the first three years and up to $70 million if the option is exercised.

Last season, he appeared in all 82 games and was selected second-team all- NBA after averaging 18.8 points and 10.5 assists per game.

In his three years in the league, all with Utah, which selected him third overall in the 2005 draft out of Illinois, he has averaged 15.3 points and 8.1 assists in 242 games, including 209 starts.

"Deron is the cornerstone of what we have been building over the past three years and he is a significant part of our foundation for the future," said Jazz general manager Kevin OConnor.
