Another sign that a supervisor is a bad boss is when the person does not actually appear to know how to do his or her job. This is often obvious when the boss gets confused, gives poor directions, and in generally unaware of what is going on.

Sometimes this is seen most in meetings, when the boss goes through the agenda but seems unable to convey any sort of cohesive vision.

The reality of many organizations is that some people get promoted and then find that they are overmatched in terms of actually doing the job. These people have trouble visioning, managing, budgeting, dealing with conflict and handling day-to-day operations.

In other words, a bad boss just seems to have a hard time doing his or her job.

Some workers may become numb to the supervisory incompetence, but they may be reminded when people from other departments start sending sympathy cards.
