WORCESTER, Mass. -- A 16-year-old Worcester girl was arrested and charged with murder, accused of smothering her toddler son with a teddy bear.
Teen Mom Accused Of Killing Son Nga Thi Truong was arraigned as an adult in Central District Court and ordered held without bail.Emergency crews were called about 11 a.m. Sunday to the Henderson Avenue house where the teen said she found her son, Khyle, unresponsive and not breathing in his crib. They found the child suffering from an apparent respiratory and cardiac arrest."He wasn't breathing, and his face was pale blue and his lips were blue, and we tried to give him CPR. I think he just died from sudden death syndrome, like, SIDS, you know?" said Truong's boyfriend, Edwin Vasquez.Vasquez, 17, is not the baby's biological father. An autopsy was performed at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center and preliminary results indicated Sudden Infant Death Syndrome was not a factor in the baby's death."It is our belief that the child was suffocated with a stuffed animal that was in the room. It's our belief it was a teddy bear," said Worcester Police Sgt. Kerry Hazelhurst.Truong's attorney and her boyfriend say she did not kill the boy."She was subjected to an unrepresented interrogation for several hours at the Worcester Police Department. She does maintain her innocence," defense attorney Ed Ryan said."I know they pressured her to say it. I know she wouldn't do it. If it happened, I would have heard it. I am not a heavy sleeper. I would have heard it. I would have heard the bed move and the strangling and everything. I would have heard it," Vasquez said.Truong, a student at South Community High School, will be held at MCI Framingham.
