Friends said Taylor Meyer, 17, a senior at King Philip High School, was last seen at the former Norfolk airport at about 10:30 p.m. Friday. She was separated from them during the course of the evening and did not return.

Officials comfirmed that Meyer's body was found at about 10:30 a.m. Monday in a marshy area near the Miller Street bridge roughly 50 to 100 yards from where she was last seen.

"There was no obvious sign of trauma. We are not able to deal with the question of cause of death at this time," Norfolk County District Attorney William Keating said.

Police, fire and rescue teams scoured the area near the airport, including the nearby Charles River, using boats, trained dogs and a state police helicopter for the teen on Saturday evening, Sunday and Monday morning.

The start of the search was delayed by confusion over Meyer's friends thinking she had gone home, and her family thinking she was with friends.

"She had decided to leave the party and started walking out of the road and had made arrangements to call for a ride. She was in the process of that -- calling for a ride. And everybody just assumed she had went with someone else and that is why there was some delay," said Norfolk Police Chief Charles Stone.

Authorities said Meyer made a few calls with her cell phone, but the last call was so garbled it was incomprehensible. NewsCenter 5 has learned that the teen was involved in an underage drinking group.

The high school has counseling services available Monday afternoon and evening in the school library, according to its Web site. A vigil was held at the school Monday evening.
