BOSTON -- A controversy over gay rights has erupted over a display window outside Macy's in Downtown Crossing. Part of a display supporting "Gay Pride Week" has been removed. It showed two male mannequins, one wearing a rainbow-colored towel, standing next to a list of gay pride events. The Boston Herald reported that the store pulled the mannequins after complaints from a group called Mass Resistance. Gay rights advocates and Mayor Tom Menino are now criticizing Macy's for buckling to the pressure.
