Wal-Mart is recalling 146,000 slow cookers because the heating element can melt the plastic shell, posing a burn hazard.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says there have been 27 reports of scorched or damaged countertops, though no injuries have been reported.

The recalled General Electric Cool Touch 6 Quart Slow Cooker, with a removable blue ceramic bowl, was sold in Wal-Mart stores nationwide from June 2003 through May 2004 for about $28.

Consumers should return the slow cooker to Wal-Mart for a full refund.

Call Wal-Mart at (800) 876-1288 or log on to Wal-Mart Stores for more information.
