Ford Vehicle Gets Allergy-Free Rating

A new car has been certified as safe for drivers with allergies.
The Ford Focus C-Max got an "Allergy-tested Interior" seal of approval from the TUV Rheinland group in Germany.
Ford says it is the first that independent experts have certified that the interior of a car consists exclusively of materials that reduce the risk of allergies to the lowest possible level.
All materials inside the car were tested for substances of potential concern. The company avoided latex and nickel, and included a pollen filter. Additionally, all components likely to have direct and prolonged skin contact such as seat covers, floor mats and seat belts were dermatologically tested.
"Allergies are still being underestimated. They affect the lives of a great number of people of all ages", said Derrick Kuzak, a Ford vice president. "That is why Ford will continue and expand this initiative without charging extra costs."
He said the company will strive to have other cars reach the same levels, and even uncertified cars are tested to make sure they don't have negative health effects.
More information about the testing can be found online. The identification number for the Focus testing is 4111008300.
