BOSTON -- Brockton residents who received enormous water bills have organized a protest of the Water Department outside City Hall on Monday.Dubbed the Brockton Water Party, the event is expected to draw dozens of residents and city officials to address the city’s water-billing crisis, according to the Brockton Enterprise. Among those expected to attend are Ayanna YanceyCato, who received a $100,000 water bill that was later adjusted to $17,000; Robert Ford, who has been asked to pay $11,000 for water; and Monico Ross-Monteiro, who said her $5,000 water bill now turns up on her mortgage payments, the paper reported. The city's water-meter reading system has produced thousands of bills based on estimates, resulting in huge bills when meters are finally read, the paper reported. Hundreds of residents have complained about their bills since June. The residents have called for answers from top-level managers in the Water Department, who they believe are partly responsible for the crisis, the paper reported. It was not clear if DPW Commissioner Michael Thoreson or Mayor Linda Balzotti would be at the protest.
