NewsCenter 5's Jim Boyd reported that thousands of people jammed the Red Sox playing field, hoping to fulfill dreams of landing a job.

"It's a good place to show up and at least be seen," one job seeker said.

It's the first job fair ever at Fenway Park. Sponsor Boston Works invited 50 employers, and the turnout of prospective employees exceeded all expectations.

"There are thousands of people here today. We had over 5,000 people preregister (online) and several thousand more walk ups today," Boston Works spokesman Peter Newton said.

The Red Sox new owners have pledged to make Fenway Park a more accessible part of the community. It sold out for two concerts by Bruce Springsteen over the weekend, and the job fair is just another way to make this historic facility community friendly.

"We've done some new things with the great concourse and the monster seats, and we need people to see it people to actually touch it, people that can't get in on game days," Boston Red Sox spokesman Troup Parkinson said.

"Being from Boston, I just wanted to see the new changes that were made, see the green monster, take a look from that angle," another job seeker said.

"I think it's kind of fun to be here. We signed up because we thought it would attract a large number of people, and in fact, it certainly has," another job seeker said.

Newton said that he estimates about 10 percent or 1,000 people who came into the field will have their dream of finding a job fulfilled.
