They are known across New England for their furniture, and now, Bernie and Phyl Rubin are opening up about a personal struggle.

Phyl Rubin suffers from multiple sclerosis. The couple has kept her condition under wraps for decades.

She said the disease has left her blind in one eye and numb from her hips to her feet.

Now in addition to the TV ads for the family's furniture chain, Bernie and Phyl's Furniture, Phyl Rubin will also appear in public service announcements about the disease.

Bernie and Phyl's Furniture was founded by the Rubin family in 1983 and has six stores and more than 500 employees, according to the company's Web site.

On "Chronicle" Tuesday night, the couple talks about the family's battle with MS and the efforts the couple has made to hide her condition for the past 40 years.

You can watch "Chronicle" at 7:30 p.m. on Channel 5.
