World Against Toys Causing Harm on Thursday released its annual list of 10 Worst Summer Toys.

The Aqua Bomb, Marshmallow Blaster and the Toypedo -- it's not hard to see how the toys would be a hit with kids. Unfortunately, they've also caught the attention of child safety advocates.

"We can't assume that just because an item is on the shelf that it is going to be safe, it's going to protect our children adequately, because, it very well may not," said attorney James Swartz, of W.A.T.C.H.

During the past year, there have been 45 recalls representing about 4 million toys. However, a voluntary system of recalls for products that can cause injury or death to children means countless dangerous toys slip through the cracks.

"Many of the hazardous products out there have never even been recalled," said Joan Siff, of W.A.T.C.H.

Child safety advocates point out successes. The Product Safety Act took effect in February.

"There's along way to go in terms of fine tuning (the law) and seeing really what kind of effect it's going to have on what types of products we're seeing on the shelves," Swartz said.

The reminded parents to always read the fine print -- no matter how hard it may be to find.

"Take out the gun, turn it the other way and see a label beneath the toy. There's actually a label stuck on there," Swartz said.
