BOSTON -- With the cost of gasoline on the rise, some people are just rolling with the punches, while others are trying alternative modes of transportation -- not just to save money, but in the hopes of helping to save the environment.NewsCenter 5's Jim Boyd reported Friday that there was noticeable bicycle traffic on the streets of Cambridge, Mass., on Friday."I try to take the T whenever I can, trying to walk or ride a bike," said John Clemonts, of Brockton. It's not just the cost of gas that has some people avoiding the use of their vehicles. A group called the Cambridge Green Initiative walked the streets, hoping to draw attention to efforts to save the environment."When they see it is costing them $5, $10 a day to get to work in terms of gasoline, maybe they will take public transportation or get out on the bikes," Rep. Will Brownsberger said."I just have to accept whatever the price is whatever they end up being," said Kris Depew of Acton, Mass. "You know, I am not that concerned about it."Not everyone agrees with Depew. Some fear that too many decisions will be made based on the price of gas."You should be able to take a vacation without worrying about how far you can go with your vehicle and whether or not you can afford it," said Donna Viera, of Somerville.
