Workers Find Sock Stuffed With Money
Homeowner's Father Stashed, Forgot About Cash

MEDFORD, Mass. -- A construction team renovating a Medford home found a sock filled with money and said they never thought twice about what to do with it.NewsCenter 5's Pam Cross reported Shawn Walker found the sock when he was kneeling down to get a better look at the plumbing under the floor at the house."I noticed there was a gym sock tucked above the insulation. I picked it up and immediately felt that there was something in it. I took a quick peek, and it was stuffed full of cash," Walker said.Walker is part of the team renovating a Medford home to make it wheelchair-accessible."We do renovations on older homes. So when we do older homes, it is always a joy because you find a lot of things that people have forgotten or misplaced," said Jim Chesbrough, of Wood Wise Construction.Chesbrough said he opened the sock and started counting the cash."I got up to $2,700 and I had a bunch of bills left -- I estimate it to be about $3,000," he said.The homeowner said his father put the money in a bathroom cubbyhole for safekeeping and forgot about it."He was grateful and he did thank us. We are just happy that it was returned to him," Walker said.The homeowner said he is thankful to the workers for finding the money and returning it.
