A's Put Barton On The Shelf

POSTED: 11:29 am EDT July 19, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Oakland Athletics placed first baseman Daric Barton on the 15-day disabled list on Saturday due to a neck strain. The move is retroactive to July 14.

In 36 games with Oakland, Barton was batting .224 with three home runs and 25 RBI.

This is Barton's first career trip to the DL, but the A's have now used the disabled list 19 times already this season.

In a related move on Saturday, the club recalled infielder Wes Bankston from Triple-A Sacramento. This is Bankston's second journey to the majors this season. He is batting .294 with a homer and three RBI in nine games.
