Rangers Activate Blalock

POSTED: 11:18 pm EDT July 18, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Texas Rangers activated third baseman Hank Blalock from the 15-day disabled list prior to Friday's 6-0 loss to the Minnesota Twins.

Blalock had been on the DL for nearly 12 weeks due to a torn left hamstring and surgery to relieve carpal tunnel syndrome. The 27-year-old suffered the hamstring injury while running the bases in Texas' 6-5 victory over the Twins on April 25.

While he was on the DL, the Rangers announced plans to have Blalock move across the diamond to play first base when he returned, although he started at third Friday night at the Metrodome.

Chris Davis has emerged as the starting first baseman for the Rangers and has six homers and 13 RBI in just 17 games this season. Hence, the club decided to keep Blalock at third. Though he went 0-for-3 Friday.

The Rangers purchased the contract of catcher Taylor Teagarden from Triple-A Oklahoma, optioned right-handed pitcher Kameron Loe to Oklahoma, and designated right-handed pitcher Joselo Diaz for assignment.
