Milwaukee, WI -- (Sports Network) - CC Sabathia threw six effective innings to earn the victory in his Brewers debut, and Ryan Braun helped him with a three- run homer to lead Milwaukee over the Colorado Rockies, 7-3, at Miller Park."He pitched very well," said Milwaukee manager Ned Yost. "Something like this adds more to the game than we are accustomed to in the middle of the season." Sabathia (1-0), who was acquired from the Indians for minor league prospects on Monday, yielded three runs, two of which were earned. The reigning American League Cy Young Award winner also allowed five hits and five walks, while striking out five. "The fans are great with their support," said Sabathia. Rickie Weeks scored three runs and had three hits for the Brewers, who bounced back from a 4-3 loss in the opener of the four-game set on Monday. Yorvit Torrealba drove in two runs for the Rockies, who fell for just the second time in eight outings. Mark Redman (2-4) suffered the defeat after surrendering four runs on five hits and one walk in five innings. The lefty is winless (0-3) over his past six outings. The Brewers opened the scoring right away with three runs from their first three hitters of the game and they led the rest of the way. Weeks and J.J. Hardy led off with consecutive singles to set up a three-run homer to deep left by Braun. Milwaukee pushed its edge to 4-0 with a run on only one hit in the third. Weeks smacked a double to left to lead off the frame and then raced to third one batter later via a groundout by Hardy. The Rockies then decided to walk Braun intentionally and Weeks came around when Prince Fielder reached on a fielder's choice. Sabathia was cruising, but ran into a little trouble in the fourth. Garrett Atkins and Ryan Spilborghs got it going with two straight singles. To make matters worse, Hardy committed an error on a ball hit by Torrealba which loaded the bases with nobody out. Atkins crossed the plate as Jayson Nix grounded into a double play, but Sabathia was able to get out of the jam with only that one run as Omar Quintanilla grounded out to first to end the inning. Sabathia hit another speed bump in the sixth inning as the Rockies cut the deficit to 4-3. For the second time in the game, Colorado loaded the bases with no outs. Matt Holliday reached on an infield single, and moved all the way to third on back-to-back walks to Atkins and Spilborghs. Torrealba drove in Holliday and Atkins with a two-run double to right, but Sabathia escaped further damage by getting Nix to line into a double play and striking out pinch-hitter Brad Hawpe. The Brewers posted a three-run seventh to give them some breathing room and a 7-3 advantage. Joe Dillon led off with a pinch-hit single and moved up one base when Weeks followed with another single. After Matt Herges struck out the next two hitters, the Rockies were seeing their way out of the threat. However, they decided to walk Fielder intentionally after the two runners moved up to second and third courtesy of a wild pitch. With two outs and the bases loaded, Corey Hart drew a walk on a 3-2 pitch to plate Dillon, and Bill Hall drove in Weeks and Fielder with a two-run single to left.
