Giants Go For Another High At Coors Field
(Sports Network) - Left-hander Barry Zito gets another chance against one of his favorite foes tonight, when the San Francisco Giants visit Coors Field for the second matchup of a four-game series with the Colorado Rockies.Zito, in his first season with the Giants after leaving Oakland as a free agent over the winter, picked up his first National League win against the Rockies on April 16, allowing three hits in six scoreless innings of an 8-0 triumph. Since starting the season 0-2, the former AL Cy Young winner is 3-1 with a no decision in five starts. In three career starts against Colorado, Zito is 1-0 with a 1.35 earned run average over 20 innings. He allowed four hits and two runs over seven innings in a no decision against the Rockies on May 2. Canadian-born lefty Jeff Francis goes for Colorado and is looking for his first win since April 9. Since defeating Los Angeles that day, Francis is 0-4 with a no decision in five starts. He's faced the Giants twice in that stretch, going 0-2 while allowing 16 hits and 11 runs over 12 1/3 innings. Lifetime against San Francisco, Francis is 3-5 with a 5.97 ERA in 11 starts. Francis has won 13 and 14 games, respectively, for the Rockies in the last two seasons. On Friday, Ray Durham drove in the go-ahead run during a two-run eighth inning and the Giants defeated the Rockies, 8-3. Durham ended with two RBI and a run scored despite going hitless on the night. Fred Lewis added a hit, two RBI and two runs scored for San Francisco, which scored all eight runs over the final three innings to help rookie phenom Tim Lincecum pick up his first career victory. Lincecum (1-0) allowed three runs -- two earned -- on seven hits over seven innings. The right-hander also struck out six and walked one in his second career start. Giants slugger Barry Bonds ended 0-for-3 with an intentional walk and remains 10 homers away from tying Hank Aaron's record of 755. He hasn't homered since hitting his 11th of the season Tuesday against the Mets. Todd Helton homered for Colorado, which has now dropped two of its last three games. Rockies starter Josh Fogg (1-4) carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning, but still suffered the setback. The righty yielded four runs on four hits, striking out five and walking two, over 7 1/3 frames. These NL West rivals have already played one another seven times this season, with San Francisco holding a 4-3 edge. The Rockies won 10 of 18 encounters with the Giants in 2006.
