What Team 5 Found Inspecting Hospital Elevators

Brigham & Women's Hospital

Sources tell Team 5 Investigates that inspection permits for 56 elevators throughout the entire Brigham & Women's Hospital campus had expired, including:

Main elevators inspection
Issued 1/11/07 and 1/12/07
Expired 1/11/08 and 1/12/08

Amory elevators inspection
Issued 1/11/07 and 1/12/07
Expired 1/11/08 and 1/12/08

"We take responsibility for not filing for the 2008 permits on time, as we should have with the state; we are sorry that this procedural error occurred.

We noticed the mistake late in 2008 and have since paid the fees for the 2009 permits and the inspection, which is scheduled for March. We have put a plan into place to make certain any delay in permitting will not happen again.

We are confident our elevators are safe, because our on-site licensed elevator technician performs preventive maintenance throughout the year on all the elevator equipment in the hospital to insure safe operation."
