Robert G. King Jr. spent more than a decade behind bars for aggravated rape and rape of a child.

Sex Offender Board Mixup Outrages Victim

His victim, who asked Team 5 Investigates to conceal her identity, was 15 when she was brutally attacked.

"It was just horrible," "Jen" said. "He would beat me, he sliced me up. It was really bad."

Team 5 Investigates first reported in 2006 how King changed his name to Brandon Lee Sloane behind bars. In 2007 he was released and added to the sex offender registry as a level 3 offender.

The Sex Offender Registry Board told Team 5 Investigates that he would come up under a search of both King and Sloane. And for a while he did.

But "Jen" contacted Team 5 after discovering a mix up.

"I typed in Robert G. King Jr. and his name came up," she said. "Then I tried Brandon Lee Sloane and there was no such offender found."

The mistake has affected a national sex offender registry as well. There's a listing for Sloane, but nothing for Robert G. King Jr.

"Jen" said it has increased the fear she has felt since first hearing King had changed his name.

"That he's going to do it again to someone else who doesn't know who he is," she said. "That they're going to know him as one name but he's going to be under someone totally different. They won't know."

The Sex Offender Registry Board corrected the listing after being contacted by Team 5 Investigates. A spokesman said, "We are reviewing our processes. It's important to get that information accurate."

But "Jen" has a message for the Sex Offender Registry Board.

"Do your job," she said. "Do what you're supposed to do. If you promise somebody that you're going to put a sex offender under both names, then do what you promised that person."
