The arrest of a man in England brought relief Thursday to the residents of Hopkinton, where a mother and her 9-month-old daughter were found murdered in their home last month.

NewsCenter 5's Sean Kelly reported that Neil Entwistle, 27, was arrested in London and charged with the murders of Rachel and Lillian Entwistle.

Attention from two continents was focused on the town after Neil Entwistle fled to England after he shot his wife and daughter as they lay in bed early on the morning of Friday, Jan. 20, according to police.

Some residents were surprised to hear about the arrest, while others thought that it was just a matter of time.

"I thought it was coming. It seemed obvious," resident John Palmer said. "It's a shame, but these things happen, and the town, I know, feels sorry that this happened here."

"We will be talking about this forever," resident Jenessa Pacheco said.

"I kind of thought it was him, to be honest with you," resident Jill Welch said.

Neil Entwistle, who was staying at his parents' home in Worksop, England, did not return for the funerals of his wife and child, who were laid to rest last week in a single casket.

Officials said that Neil Entwistle told a judge in London that he would not agree to return to Massachusetts at this time.
