BOSTON -- If holiday heartburn has you reaching for medication, you might be interested to learn that some heartburn drugs can cause other problems. According to new research, while effective, some popular prescription heartburn drugs such as Prilosec, Prevacid and Nexium are three times more likely to be diagnosed with a bug that causes severe diarrhea.
Patients using less potent heartburn drugs, such as Pepcid and Zantac, are about twice as likely to get the infections.
