BOSTON -- Hey, ladies. How'd you like to have a different guy at your fingertips each month -- the first just as appealing as the last?NewsCenter 5's Heather Unruh reported Friday that it's possible with a new calendar, called Guys for Eyes. But it is more than meets the eye. The creator hopes it will benefit those with vision problems.Suzi Reynolds, of the Finney Retina Research Foundation, wants her calendar to raise awareness about macular degeneration -- a disease that has robbed her mom of her central vision.
"I've watched her just struggle with trying to read, trying to drive, trying to pay checks; everyday scenarios become very, very difficult," Reynolds said.Proceeds will go to eye disease research at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear. Reynolds started the calendar by asking her friends if they'd be willing to pose for the cause."There's a little coercion involved there. And you really see a different side of these guys. Because some are really up for it, and some are terrified," she said. The calendar features a diverse group of professional men -- a martial arts teacher, retired Celtics player JoJo White, an economic consultant and even Kiss 108 DJ Romeo."The first thing I asked was, 'Do I have to take my clothes off?'" Dr. Ramon Franco said.Franco, a laryngologist, agreed to do it. Staff call him the hospital hunk."I've been getting everything from congratulations to people calling me Dr. May and things like that. Things have changed. I've crossed a threshold here," he said. With the exception of Mr. January-- who is Reynolds' husband-- all the men are single. Reynolds hopes that for next year's calendar, she'll open it up to auditions. For now, the female staff at the Mass Eye and Ear are excited. They say it's the only hot-bod calendar they can put up in their cubicles without offending the hospital administration.
