Group Brushes Up On Latest Technology

BOSTON -- Dentists from all over the world converged on Boston Friday for the 30th annual Yankee Dental Congress.
NewsCenter 5's Rhonda Mann reported that it's a chance to sink their teeth into the latest gadgets to help keep you smiling.More than 30,000 dentists are meeting at the Hynes Convention Center to brush up on the latest technology.A new portable X-ray machine has already come in handy oversees, helping to identify victims of the tsunami. It retails at $6,300 -- a bargain for any dentist who needs to go from office to office or even room-to-room."During a procedure, instead of moving the patient, they can come in at any angle and take a picture," Ariba X-Ray spokesman Don Kloos said.A Cerac computer can help you picture what a new crown will look like -- then a machine can cut the piece right in front of you in about an hour."There are no temporaries involved, no gooey impression materials that you have to bite on," Sirona spokesman Stefan Hehen said.There was even a toothbrush with toothpaste already inside."It kind of shoots in between your teeth, down to your gums," Oral B spokesman Miranda Benson said.For $149, an Oral B sonic brush claims to clean better than others.
