Y-Lift Promises Younger Look With No Surgery

Procedure Uses Small Holes

A cosmetic surgeon has developed a face-lift he said can make patients look younger without surgery, WCBV-TV in Boston reported.

New York City's Dr. Yan Trokel is the only surgeon in the world who performs the "Y-Lift" procedure.

The station said that his patients come from Boston and around the world.

Frankie Boyer, 58, is a nationally syndicated radio talk show host whose health and lifestyle shows are broadcast right from her living room in Boston. She likes the way she looks, but admits she’s always looking for the next big thing.

"I don't think I need a face-lift, I don't think I need a lot, but I think I need a little tweaking," she said.

Her home is filled with facial creams and almost every vitamin imaginable.

"I'm not trying to look 25," Boyer said. "What I want to do is be the best I can be for who I am at this stage in my life."

Eighteen years ago, Boyer had what she considers an unsuccessful surgical neck lift.

"When I hear the word surgery, I'm out of the room, but non-surgical intrigues me," she said.

The Y-Lift is the next generation of face-lifts, said Trokel.

"We're like balloons, we just shrink down, like the air that just comes out. And now you get the wrinkles, just like in a balloon. In a face-lift, what are we doing? We are just cutting that balloon and making it tighter again. But with the Y-Lift, we are revolumizing it. There's no down time, there's no general anesthesia, there's no incisions, so there's no scars."

Trokel begins by mapping Boyer’s bone structure.

"I'm going to actually lift up a little bit of her cheekbones. I'm going to improve the hollowing under the eyes. I'm going to rebuild in a structure to give her a jaw line," he said.

A topical numbing agent is placed on her face so four small holes can be made with a needle, allowing Trokel to insert a very thin titanium tube filled with hyaluronic acid, a naturally produced compound that's in our bodies.

It's applied directly to the bone and, like an artist working with clay, Trokel massages the filler, creating a new, more plump facial appearance.

"I'm very happy about my cheeks going up a little bit,” Boyer said one week after the procedure. “And I'm also happy that he tried to make my face more horizontal than vertical."

She said the pain and discomfort during the procedure was minimal. The only downside, she said, was having to sleep on her back for a few days.

"I think I'm a more enhanced Frankie Boyer. I think I look better, and I think it's subtle," she said.

The procedure costs $3,000 to $6,000 and can last one to two years. After that, Trokel said patients may only need 15-minute tune-ups every year.
