Making medical decisions for yourself or a family member can be a challenge.

But as NewsCenter 5's Liz Brunner reported Wednesday, a new local company has come up with a way to help you.

"I was stressed. I was at wit's end. I was taking care of a person with dementia 24/7," said Donald Parisi, of Cape Cod.

When Parisi became the sole caregiver for his 96-year-old Uncle Jimmy, he didn't know who to turn for help.

"He was declined hospice all doors were closed," Parisi said.

MTCare Navigators, of Methuen, Mass., steered Parisi in the right direction, and helped get his uncle the hospice he needed. It's a referral service for anyone who needs expert advice when they're facing life-altering medical decisions.

"We are a free care concierge to the community at large," said Marlene Sheehy, who is a registered nurse and the CEO of MTCare Navigators.

At MTCare Navigators, experts work one on one with each family, and are ready to take questions 24 hours a day.

"Is this the right nursing home, or mom should I be looking for more of a orthopedic facility?" said Teresa Burns, the COO of MT Care Navigators.

The support is personalized to each families needs. Everything from finding hospice services, to pet-sitting services while someone is in rehab to end-of-life care is discussed.

"Once we have a client, we have them for life until they don't need us anymore," said Burns.

"So, if they're interested in short-term rehab within their specific area, we will call the rehab facilities in that area, make the phone calls, make the appointments for them, and we can actually go with them as well," Sheehy said.
