BOSTON -- More than 1 million women of child-bearing age will seek treatment every year for infertility. According to Boston IVF, more than half will give birth.Researchers tracked more than 6,000 women undergoing in-vitro fertilization, or IVF. Sixty-five percent of women younger than 35 were able to get pregnant with six IVF cycles. The number dropped to just a 23 percent success rate for women older than 40.
Surgery Check List
There's a new tool for surgery that could cut your risk of dying in half.New research by the Harvard School of Public Health shows that a simple checklist for doctors and nurses can dramatically reduce errors and improve patient health during surgery. On the checklist, the team is required the make sure they have the right patient and the incision is clearly marked. Also, they must make sure extra blood is on hand for potential problems. And all instruments are accounted for at the end of each surgery.Play Yard Recall
Fisher-Price is warning consumers to stop using the "Rainforest Portable Play Yard" made by Simplicity.According to Fisher-Price, the play yard is being voluntarily recalled because the rails can fall down and injure a child. There have been at least 1,350 reports of one or more rails collapsing. A number of kids have been hurt, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, or CPSC.Although it did not manufacture or sell the play yards, Fisher-Price has voluntarily agreed to assist consumers who own the products. The recalled play yards were sold with a bassinet, changing table and mobile features between January 2007 and January 2009.
