BOSTON -- An estimated 12 million Americans are addicted to alcohol. But could there be help in the form of a tiny pill?Olivier Ameisen, a top french cardiologist, has written a controversial bestseller called "The End Of My Addiction," about overcoming his own alcoholism. He claims he did it with the help of a muscle relaxant drug called Baclofen. He claims it can curb the agitation and the cravings that alcoholics often experience from withdrawal symptoms. Many doctors believe it is not a cure, and add it has had little success in clinical trials. 14 percent were less likely to get early aspirin to minimize blood clotting; 10 percent were less likely to get beta blockers; 25 percent were less likely to get drugs to restore blood flow. It may help explain why the report found women are two times more likely to die from a severe heart attack than men.
Heart Attack And Women
When it comes to heart attacks, it's always a race against time. But a new report warns that even if a woman in the midst of a heart attack makes it to the hospital in time, many are not getting the care they need:Eyelash Enhancer Drug
A drug for glaucoma could double as an eyelash enhancer.A cosmetic company has asked the Food and Drug Administration to approve its Lumigan formula to make eyelashes longer and fuller for people over 18. The drug is designed to be applied to the base of the lashes. An FDA panel of experts ruled Friday that the drug's benefits outweigh the risks. The agency is not required to follow the panel's advice, but it usually does.Copyright 2008 by TheBostonChannel.com. All rights reserved.
