UPDATED: 4:04 pm EDT March 19, 2008

The 6th Annual Tufts Medical Center Harbor Walk & Run to benefit Tufts Medical Center and its Floating Hospital for Children will take place on Sunday, June 8.

This is the first year that a 5k Run has been added to the annual six mile walking tradition. Registration opens at 8 a.m. and the Walk/Run begins at 10 a.m. outside of Carson Place at the Boston Teacher’s Union, adjacent to the Bayside Exposition Center in South Boston. The six-mile course will travel along the beach, wind its way around historic Fort Independence, out to Castle Island, and back along the beach to Carson Place.

This year, the Medical Center’s Family Festival will immediately follow the Harbor Walk & Run. A fun festival with music, moon bounces, magicians and games will be featured from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit will hold their bi-annual reunion this year as well.

Hundreds of walkers from over 50 teams are expected to participate in the walk to raise funds for Tufts Medical Center. This year’s fundraising goal is $250,000. The net proceeds raised by each team go to support a Tufts Medical Center or Floating Hospital department, service or program of the team’s preference.

Online registration and donation options are available by clicking here. The registration fee is $25 per walker up until May 31. Event-day registration will begin at 8 a.m. and will be $35 per walker. Children ages eight and under can participate free of charge. Volunteers are needed and welcomed at no charge as well.
