BOSTON -- Light The Night is an evening walk and fundraiser held annually in communities across the country to commemorate lives touched by blood cancer and support blood cancer research and patient services. The evening is also a community celebration, with music, refreshments and family activities. This year's walk in our area will be held on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008 on the Boston Common. Registration and festivities begin at 5 p.m., and the walk begins at 6:30 p.m. This year’s local media sponsor is WCVB-TV Channel 5. Serving as honorary co-chairs for the event are the channel’s very own Mike Dowling, sports reporter, and Susan Wornick, news anchor and reporter. There are currently over 823,000 Americans battling leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. During the Light The Night Walk, family, friends and teams of co-workers walk together in twilight holding illuminated balloons, drawing attention to the critical need to find cures and provide families with ongoing care and support.
"There are so many people who need our help," said Sharon Klein, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Chapter. "We are grateful to the volunteers who are lending their support this year, and hope that others will join us to make this year’s Walk a success."To volunteer or for more information about Light The Night, contact Corie Hoffberger at the Massachusetts Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at (508) 810-1317 or click here.
