What About Lee Westwood?
Editor's Note: While many will be watching defending champion Padraig Harrington, world No. 2 Phil Mickelson and favorite Sergio Garcia at Royal Birkdale, England's Lee Westwood - along with fellow countryman Justin Rose - will be the gallery's clear choice. The Englishman will be playing on his home turf at Royal Birkdale in Southport, and he's been playing well recently.
After going through an extensive workout regimen and a considerable loss of weight, Westwood is now quite fit. He was in the hunt throughout the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines, just missing out on the 18-hole Monday playoff with Tiger Woods and Rocco Mediate, and finishing third. After ditching the belly putter, Westwood went to a face-balanced mallet model with a cross-handed grip and is rolling the "rock" much better than in years past.
Yesterday, the native of Worksop sat down with reporters and discussed his chances at this year's Open Championship.
MODERATOR: Ladies and gentlemen, joined by Lee Westwood. Lee, thanks for joining us.
LEE WESTWOOD: Pleasure.
