George Foreman Cleaning Products

George Foreman is known for his lean, mean grilling machine -- and now he's launching a new line of household cleaning products. The Good Housekeeping Institute tried them out.

First, testers cleaned with George Foreman's Knock-Out Multipurpose Cleaner ($2.79-$3.49; 800-587-0125; www.knockoutcleaning.com). Like other multipurpose cleaners, it did well with everyday cleanup tasks such as fresh spills and sticky residues. But it couldn't completely remove old, settled soils without some scrubbing.

George's product line also features a Knock-Out Deep Stain Remover ($2.79-$3.49), which claims to remove heavy, set-in dirt and grime without excess rubbing. While it did the job on some stains, other messes were more difficult. However, it's a versatile formula because it can be used on both fabrics and carpets.

Testers also placed Windex up against George Foreman's Knock-Out Streak Free Glass Cleaner ($2.79-$3.49). Both products cleaned glass and mirrors without streaking, but Foreman's cleaner required a few more wipes than Windex. The Foreman costs a fraction more than its challenger, but it doesn't contain ammonia or alcohol.

According to the company, its position is "to use safe, natural cleaning agents, which may be less aggressive than toxic chemicals, in exchange for a little more time to let it work and, in some cases, a bit more elbow grease."
