Jenny Tulloss is the last person you would expect to have a chicken coop in her Weston back yard, but for the past five years she has been raising chickens. What started off as a way to feed her family organic eggs has turned into a business -- 52 chickens strong, laying more than four dozen eggs a day."When I started I thought it would be fun to have chickens. I thought it would be great for the kids, and it would be nice to get the eggs. Chickens seemed entertaining," Tulloss said. The local produce is catching on. Tulloss sells eggs to loyal customers. In fact, there are several Weston families raising chickens. They've even organized a Coop Loop -- a tour of the many henhouses in the tony Boston suburb. The second stop on the coop loop is the Elliston farm. They've had chickens for more than 70 years, and at one point, more than 300 in the barn. The Elliston farm is a family affair. Kids Aiden and Emma help gather the eggs every morning."By the time you've actually cooked an egg and eaten it, just think about the carbon footprint that one egg has produced. It's mind boggling," Lelia Elliston said."You reap incredible benefits. There are no preservatives, no additives," Courtney Elliston said. "You are pesticide-free. It's much more healthy."It's the health of the agricultural community in Weston that's important to many. For Nina Donahue and her helper, Liam, holding onto the farming tradition is as important as gathering the eggs."I like to think about it as a historically farming community, so we like to keep up with that tradition in a small way," Donahue said.
