One of pop music's newest princesses drew a huge crowd and enough rowdiness to Danvers Thursday night that police had to be called in.

Singer Jessica Simpson attracted a traffic-stopping legion of fans to the WalMart in Danvers. The singer and star of MTV's hit show "Newlyweds" was in town to promote her new CD.

Store managers knew Simpson would attract a crowd. But when their original estimate of 400 to 500 youngsters ballooned to 6,000 store officials called police. At first, officers played it cool. But when traffic along nearby route 114 snarled and over-excited fans began pushing and shoving. Simpson was sent home early.

Three youngsters and an adult were arrested for disorderly conduct. No major injuries were reported.
