The filmmaker behind such hits as the Tina Turner feature film biography "What's Love Got to Do With It," Demi Moore's "The Juror" and "Poltergeist II" has died.
Brian Gibson was 59. He died in London Sunday from a rare form of bone cancer, according to his representatives from the Artists Independent Network.
Released in 1993, "What's Love Got to Do With It?" chronicled the tumultuous marriage of singers Ike and Tina Turner, played by Laurence Fishburne and Angela Bassett, respectively. Fishburne and Bassett earned Best Actor and Best Actress Oscar nominations, respectively, for their portrayals.
Gibson's last feature film, "Still Crazy," the British comedy about over-the-hill rock stars received two Golden Globe nominations in 1998 including Best Picture Musical or Comedy.
Gibson also won an Emmy in 1991 for directing "The Josephine Baker Story" for HBO. He also earned a Directors Guild of America nomination for television for directing the film.
