BOSTON -- The Boston Public Library's priceless collection of rare historic photos, antique maps and vintage posters are now for sale online ... all reproductions of those items, of course!
The library has thousands of items in a rare, world-class collection that until recently has only been seen by historians. But now the library is announcing the opening of its brand new online store
www.bpl.org/store , where consumers can purchase fine reproductions of items that include rare images of historic Copley Square, or photos from Boston's rich sports heritage, including images from the first-ever World Series in 1903, that can be reproduced on clothing, mugs and posters.
Some of the products include fine prints, ceramic tiles, and notecards and totebags that can be custom-ordered with a full-color reproduction of a rare photo, map or painting from the BPL's collection.
Customers, for example, can purchase Paul Revere house lunch boxes, marathon mousepads or Old North Church T-shirts.
To give the public an idea of some of the products that are on sale, the library is hosting an exhibit in Deferrari Hall at the BPL in Copley Square through June 25.
The Boston Public Library, established in 1848, was the first publicly supported municipal library in America as well as the first to lend a book. Today, it has more than 6 million books and serves more than 2 million people at its 27 branches.
